In the quest Pike has always been a real background person. He hardly had any
part in the story and so he was hardly shown. But those few small pictures of
him I just needed to scan to show you his part.
Since I bought only the books since I started to collect Elfquest, I divided
Pike's story in these parts too. So book 1 is Elfquest issues 1 'till 5 collected.
After book 4 the books only contain four issues per book.
Book 1 Book 2
Book 3 Book 4
Book 1
The first time Pike is introduced is when Nightrunner comes with the message
that humans bring fire to the holt. Cutter sends out all their names and the
males are introduced. Note
that Pike's cheeks are not that chubby yet.
After the Wolfriders' journey through the desert, they find Sorrow's End and
the first thing the betrayed elves do is steal food and water and... Leetah.
When Rayek has followed them into the mountains, he paralyzes
Pike when he dares to take Rayek's spear.
Then another, also only small piece is when Cutter has to cross the Bridge of
Destiny and is too afraid. Pike tries to make clear how useless
he thinks the Trial of Hand, Head and Heart is.
This chapter ends with Pike lying drunk
under the first dreamberry bush in the Sunvillage. Of course it's Pike who must
test the berries.
Book 2
In the next seven issues it looks like Pike doesn't even take part in the story
at all! There's only one small thing I can show. It's the first time Pike and
ShenShen are spotted together. They look so cute!
Suntop received a warning from Savah and now the Wolfriders will travel behind
their chief. Leetah will join them and ShenShen is so sad to see her sister
leave. Pike tries to cheer her up by offering
her flowers.
Book 3
Then finally, when the Wolfriders are invited by Lord Voll to join him and the
chosen eight for a feast, there's one
whole page about Pike! He sure looks funny when he is drunk.
And he was allowed to drink, because it was meant to be a cheerfull party! But
when Suntop is abducted by Winnowill, Cutter blames
Pike for being drunk and not being able to fight. Cutter's excuse for not being
there himself, is that he fought Winnowill a while before his return. And quite
a while it was. Because when you try to find out how much time passed since
his fight with Winnie, you wonder what took him so long to get back to the dining
chamber. While Winnowill even took a bath before she took Suntop away.
Just a few moments before this, Pike gives some wine to Egg,
hoping it would give him the same funny feeling as it gave Pike. But Egg doesn't
seem to have "any tolerance, I guess".
Aaaah... Pike and dreamberries. He sure knows a lot about them. He even knows
a way to use them to get
to the palace of the High-Ones.
Book 4
Quest's End follows. Pike shares some knowledge about weapons
with a Go-Back and he 'dances'
with Vaya, before they will go to war with the Frozen Mountain trolls. This
dancing seemed to have a great impact on him. He notes Vaya on the battlefield
and it seems he didn't expect her to be there. This makes me think they've shared
a lot the night before. When Vaya is taken to see the troll king Guttlekraw,
Pike is wounded, because
he tried to help her.
He also tries to get contact with her, after he is healed by Leetah, but Vaya
refuses to answer. She tried to protect him and her tribe and she succeeds.
I think if she would have survived, she and Pike would've been lovemates.
They find the dead Vaya back in Two-Edge's treasure vault. I have four versions
of that! Take a look: page
86 of book 4, part of page
87 of book 4, back
cover of EQ #21 and a marvel
page that goes between page 86 and 87.
You all know the elves won the war together with Picknose's trolls. Here you
see Pike and Picknose celebrating
their victory over Guttlekraw. Shortly after that some go back to Redlance and
the kids. It surprises me that Pike is already with them (think about the wine
he was drinking with Picknose) but he is the one who finds Mekda,
frozen to dead and thus useless to the trolls who left him behind.
